Springer Re-Launches SpringerMaterials with Vast Improvements

Springer’s signature materials database – SpringerMaterials – has gotten a total overhaul to make the new site more nimble and user friendly.

And the changes are far more than cosmetic as the entire site has been migrated to the same technology as the publisher’s flagship platform, SpringerLink.

By leveraging the same technology used for other Springer databases and platforms, the new SpringerMaterials can now offer the widely applauded and industry-leading features of SpringerLink. Device-agnostic (responsive) design allows users to access the database anywhere in the world on any device, and new “user journeys” allow researchers to search, refine and interactively analyze content in ways that were previously unavailable.  The new features include a “facet” tool with filters that enable users  to restrict results to properties, materials discipline or specific databases.

“The new SpringerMaterials is the latest example of our ongoing work to improve and deepen the experience our customers have when they access and use our content,” said Syed Hasan, President of Global Academic and Government Sales and Marketing at Springer. “We are constantly looking at the needs of researchers and investing in new ways to enrich their work. We are proud of this re-launch, and happy to make these improvements for our users.”

The content on the new SpringerMaterials platform will remain virtually untouched, including the flagship Landolt-Börnstein New Series database. In 2015 Springer expects to add even more quality content to SpringerMaterials, including new Landolt-Börnstein volumes, updates to the existing databases, and the introduction of new databases, including a 80,000-page materials review database.

“We will constantly add new features and new content to our platform as a result of continuing discussions with customers and scientists across the globe,” said Dr. Michael Klinge, Executive Editor and head of the SpringerMaterials editorial team. “Customer feedback, scientific needs and technological trends are the key elements for further developing the SpringerMaterials platform.”

For anyone interested in taking the new platform for a test drive, Springer staff will be on hand at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The Springer stand is located in hall 4.2 G6.
