Hitachi Chemical to Build New Photosensitive Dry Film Plant in Yantai, China

Hitachi Chemical Co. has established Hitachi Chemical (Yantai) Co., Ltd. in Yantai Economic and Technological Development Area in Yantai City, Shandong Province, China. The new company is to be the Group's new printed wiring board (PWB) circuit-forming photosensitive dry film (photosensitive dry film) slitting operational base in China, part of the Company's effort to expand its photosensitive dry film business in China. The new operational base will have an annual film slitting capacity of 15 million m2 and is scheduled to be fully operational by May 2006.

PWB manufacturers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan region, and other locations, who are the prime users of the photosensitive dry film, are accelerating the shift of their production bases to China. Also, with local Chinese PWB manufacturers expanding their production capacity in response to increasingly active demand for electronics, China has now become the world's largest photosensitive dry film market. Yantai was chosen for the new slitting operational base in view of the expected growth in demand for photosensitive dry film, especially in eastern and northern China, where the growth of the electronic industry looks promising.

Hitachi Chemical Group has the world's largest share of the photosensitive dry film market with film production bases in China (Dongguan), Malaysia and Japan, and also film slitting operational bases in China (Shanghai and Dongguan), Hong Kong, Taiwan region, South Korea, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Our new film slitting operational base in Yantai should enable us to confidently meet local demands and secure a competitive edge by being able to quickly respond to local customer needs and by reinforcing the strength of our technical services in close contact with customers in eastern and northern China.
