Rigaku Unveils Portable Stress Analyzer for On-Site Analysis

Rigaku has introduced a portable analyzer, SmartSite RS, meant exclusively for on-site studies to calculate the residual stress of metal components. SmartSite RS can be used for large-scale building projects as well as for independent products such as maritime vessels, pipelines, bridges, aerospace equipment, aircraft, automobiles, and heavy machinery.

The instrument can be powered using an integrated battery or 100-240V AC provided via a wall socket. The battery is capable of handling up to 100 measurements for each charge. The instrument does not need cooling water.

The X-ray measuring head component allows remote control of the SmartSite RS by using a Wi-Fi connection or a tablet PC. Remote control operations are handy in harmful locations or in areas that are hard to reach. Aligning the measuring head component is easy due to the 3D sensors, a laser marker, integrated CCD camera, and a white LED for illumination.

First the user will have to position the measuring head component at the spot requiring measurement and then align the distance and angle between the component and the sample by viewing and controlling through the remote tablet PC. The SmartSite RS is able to deliver measurement of residual stress in less than a minute. In-built material constants like Poisson’s ratio and Young’s modulus in the software enable automatic analysis. These parameters are changeable if required. Results of previous calibrations are archived and can be retrieved from a history view for ensuring measurement traceability.
