NexPoint Materials today announced plans to close its Burkville manufacturing site in Alabama near the end of the first quarter of 2027 and transfer its production of polycarbonate (PC) resin and compounds to the company's operations in Mount Vernon, Ind. This move is part of a broader restructuring effort across NexPoint.
The decision reflects changes in global resin production, trade flows and market demand. Consolidating production at the Mount Vernon site is intended to align manufacturing capacity more closely with demand, improve operational efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of NexPoint in the Americas.
The planned closure is limited to the Burkville site. NexPoint will continue to operate its other manufacturing sites in the Americas.
"Building a stronger NexPoint means making decisions that align our capabilities with customer needs and the realities of the markets we serve," said Sanjay Mishra, chief executive officer, NexPoint. "By consolidating production at the Mount Vernon site, we intend to simplify our manufacturing footprint and establish a more focused, efficient operating model to serve our customers better. Our priority is to manage the transition carefully and continue supporting customers with our differentiated engineering thermoplastics portfolio and strong materials and application development expertise.
We recognize the significant impact this decision has on people who work at our site and their families. Many employees have dedicated decades to the site and have demonstrated a strong commitment to their work. This makes the decision especially difficult, even though it is necessary. We are committed to treating everyone with respect, communicating transparently as plans are finalized and managing the transition safely and responsibly."
Vast Majority of Customers Unaffected, Working Closely with Those Impacted
NexPoint's Mount Vernon site has the manufacturing capabilities to support the planned consolidation. The company is implementing a comprehensive transition plan to prepare manufacturing operations and support continuity of supply.
Most customers will not be affected by the change. For those who are, the implications will vary depending on the products they purchase and their specific requirements.
NexPoint's commercial, operational and technical teams will work closely with affected customers to explain any changes to product availability, supply arrangements and transition timing, and to identify appropriate next steps. NexPoint recognizes that changes to established supply arrangements can create challenges, and the company is committed to working directly with customers to manage the transition as carefully as possible.
A Focused Manufacturing Network and Differentiated Portfolio
NexPoint will continue to serve customers across a broad range of industries and applications with its portfolio of engineering thermoplastics that include PC, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), PC blends and other differentiated materials.
The consolidation is intended to create a more focused and competitive manufacturing footprint while supporting evolving customer requirements.
Keeping Employees Informed and Managing the Transition Responsibly
The company is communicating with employees about the planned site closure and timing.
The production stoppage and subsequent shutdown activities will proceed with a focus on employee safety, environmental protection and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
