Goodrich to Commercialise Fireproof Material

Goodrich’s Engineering Polymers division have developed a new composite material technology. The material called FyreRoc ™ originally developed for military applications possesses fireproof qualities.

Initially designed for military applications such as bulkheads and watertight hatches for navy ships, FyreRoc is made up of inorganic resin that does not ignite. Furthermore, it will not produce smoke, toxic fumes or generate heat.

It is compatible with reinforcing phases such as stainless steel, carbon and glass. Materials incorporating these materials have a variety of industrial applications.

FyreRoc has enabled a door manufacturer to pass a gruelling 90 minute direct flame and water pressure test when it was sandwiched between layers of medium density fibreboard (MDF).
