The KLA-7 Low-Temperature Flow Tester evaluates the filterability of diesel and biodiesel blend fuels in certain automotive systems under low-temperature conditions.
Results from the Low Temperature Flow Test reflect the fuel's flow performance in specific diesel engines at reduced temperatures. This method is particularly useful for assessing fuels that contain flow-improving additives within a temperature range of +10 °C to -30 °C.
Automatic low temperature filterability test analyzer (LTFT)
Up to six 300 mL test vessels are cooled at a fixed rate of 1 °C per hour. At each 1 °C decrease, a 20 kPa vacuum is applied to a filter assembly immersed in the first sample. If at least 180 mL is collected in a graduated receiver within 60 seconds, the test continues to the next lower temperature step (pass). If the volume is below 180 mL in 60 seconds, the test fails.
The lowest temperature at which the sample still passes is recorded as the minimum LTFT pass temperature.
The instrument is a six-position floor-standing unit equipped with an integrated cooling system featuring a single-stage, CFC-free motor compressor, capable of reaching temperatures down to -45 °C.
Its built-in vacuum system includes a 350 kPa micropump, vacuum stabilizer, and electronic control to maintain a consistent 20 kPa vacuum.
Operation is fully automatic, controlled via a large integrated touchscreen panel PC. All parameters and the test status are shown in real time during the analysis.
