Version 2027.1 introduces new capabilities and performance enhancements designed to make image analysis faster, more precise, and easier to manage.
From AI-powered segmentation and subvoxel mesh analysis to expanded CAD interoperability and integrated reporting, the release provides new ways to segment, analyze, measure, visualize, and communicate results within 3D World.
New Capabilities Across the Image Analysis Workflow
Accelerate Segmentation with AI
Dragonfly 3D World 2027 expands its deep learning capabilities with the introduction of Grid-Based SAM for automated instance segmentation and enhanced Cellpose-SAM integration, providing more streamlined options for identifying and separating individual objects within complex datasets.
New 2.5D and 3D image classification capabilities offer additional flexibility for working with complex datasets. The release also introduces Fast Split and Smart Erode, powerful new tools that make separating touching or overlapping objects faster and easier than ever.
Analyze and Characterize Individual Components
New Subvoxel Multi-Mesh capabilities allow users to identify, measure, and characterize individual components within a mesh, enabling more detailed analysis of complex structures at subvoxel resolution.
New Surface Roughness Analysis also enables users to evaluate surface texture directly from CT- derived meshes using ISO-based metrics.
Expanded Mesh and CAD Workflows
New mesh editing and CAD import tools provide greater flexibility for inspecting, comparing, and preparing complex 3D models.
Capabilities include Boolean operations, CAD model import, automatic mesh registration for scan-to-CAD alignment, and faster mesh processing, helping users work more efficiently across imaging data, meshes, and CAD models.
Bring Analysis, Reporting, and Sharing Together
The new Report Builder brings reporting directly into 3D World, creating a more seamless workflow from analysis through final documentation.
Reports can be efficiently created and exported in PDF and HTML formats, while Full License users have access to additional options including Microsoft Word export, customizable report headers, and embedded 3D surface meshes.
For the first time, Dragonfly Session Viewer is available as a free, standalone download. This software makes it possible to share interactive 3D results with colleagues, customers, and collaborators who don’t have a 3D World license, by allowing them to open and interact with Dragonfly’s object and session files.
Visualize and Measure Data in New Ways
3D World 2027 also introduces new annotation and measurement capabilities, including the Caliper tool for measuring perpendicular distances between surfaces and Scalar Arrow annotations for displaying measurements and scalar values directly within 2D and 3D views.
Additional enhancements include new clipping and coordinate-system options, expanded support for 4D datasets, and support for additional file formats.
Updated Licensing for Dragonfly 3D World 2027
The 2027 release also introduces changes to Dragonfly 3D World licensing.
Dragonfly remains committed to supporting academic research through the Academic License program. At the same time, 3D World 2027 introduces new capabilities exclusive to Full License holders, including Subvoxel Multi-Mesh, Surface Roughness
Analysis, advanced Report Builder options, and support for additional proprietary file formats. Developed with industrial applications in mind, these capabilities provide the consistency, accuracy, and repeatability required for quality assurance and research and development workflows.
Dragonfly 3D World 2027 is Available Now
Full License users with an active Support Plan and Academic License users are eligible to upgrade to 3D World 2027.
Users currently running 3D World 2025.1 can access the new release through “Check for Updates” directly within the software.
Full License users without an active Support Plan can contact the Dragonfly team to renew their plan and access 3D World 2027.
