Independent Confirmation: UL Validates PCR Content of up to 80% in KRAIBURG TPE’s Universal PCR TPEs

KRAIBURG TPE has received Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) from UL Solutions for second-generation Universal PCR TPEs. The validation confirms post-consumer recycled content (PCR) ranging from 70 to 80 percent - depending on the individual material variant.

With second-generation Universal PCR TPEs, KRAIBURG TPE is enabling brand manufacturers to increase the use of post-consumer recyclates in consumer and industry applications. The independent validation by UL Solutions provides transparency with regard to the proportion of recycled material used as well as a reliable basis for documenting material properties along the value chain.

“The demand for materials with verifiable proportions of recyclates is constantly increasing. At the same time, brand manufacturers, the retail sector and consumers expect transparent and reliable information about the origin and composition of the materials used. The independent validation of our product series provides an important basis for this,” says Magdalena Michl, Product Manager at KRAIBURG TPE.

The Environmental Claim Validation confirms this specified proportion of post-consumer recyclates in the materials and comprises verification of the underlying documentation, calculation methods and traceability. This provides customers with independent verification of the material specifications stated.

High PCR Content for Consumer and Industry Applications

Like the first generation, the second generation of Universal PCR TPEs is designed for applications where material performance as well as a high proportion of recycled raw materials are essential. Depending on type, the compounds contain 70 to 80 percent post-consumer recyclates. The materials were designed to meet the requirements of many consumer and industry applications in relation to surface feel, surface quality and processability despite high PCR content. Typical areas of application are razor handles, protective caps, anti-slip elements, dog toys and feeding mats, as well as applications in the sports and recreation sector.

Validated PCR Content for New Applications

“By using post-consumer recyclates, KRAIBURG TPE is already utilizing recycled raw materials to produce the materials. This enables manufacturers to increase the recycled raw-material content in their products on the basis of a proportion of recyclates validated by an independent body,” says Dr. Andrea Winterstetter, Corporate Sustainability Manager at KRAIBURG TPE.

Matthias Wagner, Head of Sales Consumer EMEA, adds: “Using recyclates requires not only materials with a relevant proportion of recyclates, but also solutions that meet the technical and quality requirements of modern consumer goods. Our products combine high PCR content with the performance features that manufacturers need for their applications.”

Verifiable PCR Content for Manufacturers

The verification of recyclate content is becoming more and more important for manufacturers. In addition to regulatory developments, the requirements of customers and of the retail sector regarding the transparency of material flows and resource use are increasing. Validation can help companies document the use of post-consumer recyclates and prove relevant material specifications along the supply chain.

About the UL Environmental Claim Validation

The Environmental Claim Validation was carried out by UL Solutions in accordance with UL 2809-2, Edition 3. The validation confirms the stated proportion of post-consumer recycled content in accordance with the definitions of ISO 14021:2016 and is based on an independent review of the relevant evidence and processes.
