Goodrich to Supply Composites to US Navy

Goodrich Corp has just won a contract from the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center to supply High Frequency Sail Array acoustic windows, as well as a contract to supply surface combatant Sonar Composite Domes and Sonar Dome Rubber Windows for the Naval Sea Systems Command.

The High Frequency Sail Array acoustic windows contract is worth over $7million over a 5 year period and involves manufacture, testing and delivery. The Sonar Domes contract is for a single year and is worth $4 million, however, talks are underway to extend the contract for a further four years, with an estimated total value of $30 million. This contract involves fabrication, assembly, inspection, testing and delivery.

The acoustic windows will be used on the Navy’s Los Angeles and Virginia class submarines.

The acoustic windows and composite sonar domes are made from RHO-COR(R), a patented composite material from Goodrich. Properties of the material can be tailored to optimise acoustic performance.
