Rubicon Technology, a provider of advanced electronic materials such as sapphire substrates and other products to the semiconductor, LED, and optical industries, has reported the allowance of its patent application titled ‘Intelligent Machines and Process for Production of Monocrystalline Products with Goniometer Continual Feedback’ by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Rhodia, Cobalt Technologies to Develop and Operate Biobutanol Demonstration Plant in Brazil

Specialty chemical company Rhodia, a member of the Solvay Group, and Cobalt Technologies, a developer of advanced bio-based chemicals, have announced that they will jointly develop and operate a biobutanol demonstration plant in Brazil. In Latin America, Brazilian bagasse and other non-food feedstock will be converted into bio n-butanol using Cobalt's technology. Butanol is employed as an industrial chemical in solvents, paints, adhesives and inks.

Nordson has acquired Sealant Equipment & Engineering, a Plymouth, Michigan-based company specializing in the production of meter, mix and dispense equipment and valves for dispensing 1-part, 2-part and 3-part sealant, adhesive and lubricating materials. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

Alcoa Secures Aluminum Alloy Drill Pipe Supply Contract from PGE

Alcoa, a manufacturer of primary aluminum, fabricated alumina and aluminum, and alumina, has declared that Pennsylvania General Energy (PGE) awarded a contract to Alcoa Oil & Gas to make aluminum alloy drill pipe of 3,500 ft long. This pipe will be used in gas drilling at the Marcellus Shale formation located in Central Pennsylvania.
