Siemens will supply a new bar mill to Shaogun Iron and Steel Group according to an order from Baosteel Engineering and Technology.
The plant which will be located in South China is likely to commence operations by the beginning of 2013. As per the order, Siemens will provide a pre-finishing mill with four stands, a finishing mill with four stands, three cooling sections which will carry out thermonuclear processing, a precision sizing mill and a crop shear. Both the rolling mills will comprise of Red Ring stands which will be configured in HVHV. The PSG precision sizing mill contains an exclusive air and oil lubrication system and is designed to have tolerance levels of 20% of the values that have been laid out as per DIN standards. Siemens will also be responsible for the automation of all the equipment in the mill.
Additionally Siemens will provide a dividing shear at the entry point of the cooling bed and a cold cutting area along with two abrasive disc saws. The mill will have an annual capacity of 460,000 metric tons of alloyed round bar stock with a diameter ranging between 20 and 80 mm.
The Baosteel Group is a major stakeholder in Shaogun Iron and Steel Group, which produces around 40 million metric tons of steel annually.
