Western Garnet International Acquire Kominex Mineral Mahlwerk

It was announced today that Western Garnet International have acquired the German company Koninex Mineral Mahlwerk GmbH for an undisclosed sum.

Kominex collect, recycle and sell garnet and alumina (aluminium oxide). The addition of the recycling facility was seen as a key component of the acquisition, as it provides a cheap source of high grade fine garnet, giving them an advantage in the European market.

Part of the transaction includes Kominex’s permit for disposing of minerals, allowing them to collect up to 11,000 tons of material. While Koninex do not currently collect this amount of material for recycling, Western Garnet plan to ramp up activities in this area to the maximum allowable limits, concentrating mainly on processing of garnet.

The acquisition also provides Western Garnet with a valuable outlet for selling waterjet and abrasive blasting products.
