Danimer Scientific has developed a new proprietary biodegradable polyester film resin in order to meet the demand for environmentally conducive compostable films.
The company will present its film resins at the Bioplastek 2012 which will be held in Virginia, USA. The details of the performance of the film resins and the certification data related to meeting the standards of ASTM D-6400 for compostability in a commercial industrial composting facility will be presented at the event.
The film resins from the company have also met the strict standards of the EU for backyard composting. Additionally the company is in the process of acquiring certification from a 3rd party lab to meet anaerobic and aerobic conditions, which are necessary in marine water and landfill environments. The results of the tests are expected to be released over the next few weeks. The film resins which are safe for the environment serve as an ideal alternative to manufacturers who are looking for end of life options.
The new resins are primarily targeted at blown film converters and applications such as single use shopping bags. The presentation from Danimer Scientific along with four other presentations will be part of the special session on Opportunities for Bioplastics in Flexible Packaging Applications at the Bioplastek 2012 forum.
