BMM Ispat, one of the largest steel manufacturers in Karnataka, India has placed orders for the core systems needed for an electrical steel plant with Siemens VAI Metal Technologies.
The order is inclusive of a customized electric arc furnace to facilitate joint charging of hot metal and direct-reduced iron. The total worth of the order is estimated to be a double digit million euro value. The order comes in the wake of a previous order at the beginning of the year for a Siemens flexible bar mill.
The supplies are for a new steelmaking facility to be set up at the Hospet factory to augment BMM Ispat’s production capacity annually by two million tonnes. The new integrated manufacturing complex is scheduled to commence operation at the end of 2013. The mill will churn out round bars, reinforcing steel, angles and sections and flat and square bars. The facility will also produce the crude steel necessary for these products. The electrical and mechanical equipment is being delivered by Siemens for the electric arc furnace with a 110 ton ladle furnace, 110 tons tapping weight, additive and alloying systems and a vacuum degassing plant. All the systems are to be equipped with a dedusting mechanism. Furnace transformers, Level 1 automation and process automation (Level 2) systems and a dynamic compensation system Static Var Compensator are included in the scope of the order.
