Construction services provider, Jacobs Engineering has been chosen by the Korean Lotte Group’s United Kingdom subsidiary, Lotte Chemical UK to provide construction management services for Lotte’s new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) facility to be constructed at Redcar in Cleveland at the Wilton International Site. Though the financial value of the contract has not been divulged, representative officials confirmed the scheduled contract duration to be 18 months.
The annual capacity of Lotte’s PET plant is 200,000 mt. Lotte already has a PET plant at the Wilton International Site. The new addition will be located adjacent to the existing plant which is also the site for an integrated pure terephthalic acid (PTA) facility. The current T8 plant of Lotte Chemical will be strengthened by the augmented capacity facilitated by the new line addition which will help the company in its shift towards production of a wider scope of PET products that also consists of resins featuring recycled PET. Gary Conroy, Chief Operating Officer of Lotte Chemical stated that Jacobs Engineering was awarded the contract as a result of the capability of their resources, prominent local presence and strength of their industry experience. Lotte Chemical views Jacobs as a key partner in ensuring their company’s success. Bob Irvin, Group Vice President of Jacobs Engineering, expressed delight at being awarded the Lotte Chemical contract for their PET facility development and stated that Jacob’s prominent presence in North England would enable them to cater to Lotte Chemical with their complete host of services ranging from design spanning various disciplines and consultancy to construction maintenance and management services.
