The new Coatings Partner e-journal, which can be downloaded at http://www.coatingspartner.com/, describes the sustainable cooperation between BASF and its customers. For instance, for the production of Hyundai’s new HB20 model, a shortened application process is being used for the first time in South America. This process requires less time, energy and material. Also in North America, Nissan is relying on BASF’s coating expertise and integrated waterborne processes for the production of its new Pathfinder and Infiniti models.

“We have to understand our customers and be open, since when it comes down to it, a functioning partnership is based on the people involved. Here, the chemistry has to be right,” said Dr. Alexander Haunschild, Senior Vice President, Automotive OEM Coatings Europe, in an interview with Coatings Partner. The company not only supplies paint, but also offers comprehensive services and develops innovative coating technologies. These include the new low-solvent ultra-high solids paints that are successfully used at the mobile crane manufacturer Terex®Cranes’ plant in Zweibrücken, Germany, and the new FGuard® 3D paint system, which lends furniture surfaces the appearance of real wood.

Buildings as power stations

How can buildings generate energy? The new issue of Coatings Partner finds an answer to this question: SPECIFIC, the Sustainable Product Engineering Centre for Innovative Functional Industrial Coatings in Baglan, Wales, is investigating how buildings can generate their own power in the future. SPECIFIC develops functional coatings for roofs and façades from glass and metal. Together with its established business partner Tata Steel, BASF supports the innovative development center.
