Shaped and Ready-to-Use ROHACELL® Foam Cores

Evonik offers a full range of shaping services to a global market for ROHACELL® structural foam core at facilities in Europe, Asia and the Untied States. Services like CNC machining and Thermoshaping can enhance design freedom and allow a customer to remove the expense and risk of damage that can occur when relying on their own in-house shaping procedure.

Customers who receive ready-to-use shapes from Evonik also enjoy the ability to maintain a lower material inventory and benefit from just-in-time part delivery that is scheduled to coincide with their unique production schedule.  

At the US production facility in Theodore, Alabama, CNC machining using 5-axis machines is one of several available shaping options. With a table size of 5’ x 12’ with 41” in the z-axis, both large and small parts can be easily produced.

ROHACELL® Thermoshaping services are another convenient option. A key benefit is that customers are able to reduce their need for bonding up material while reducing waste material from a thick billet. Evonik performs the procedure using a high temperature tool. With extensive experience in working with ROHACELL®, Evonik’s shaping professionals are able to eliminate spring-back after forming – resulting in a high quality core shape that meets tight tolerance requirements.

For unique parts, Evonik also offers a Thermoshaping option that uses heating platen technology. This procedure reduces the expense of high temperature tooling and material waste that can occur during typical machining. To confirm if your part qualifies for this process, contact [email protected].

Customer services do not end with part shaping. Evonik can also perform first article inspections for all shapes. Parts are inspected with an FARO arm using a ball probe, as well as calipers, micrometers, scales, etc.  For some materials, an optical scanner can be used. Certificates of Conformance are issued with delivered shapes to confirm material, specification, batch number, serial numbers, and part names.  All shapes are delivered in MIL-PRF-131 aluminum bags that are vacuum sealed with desiccant inside to remove any possibility of moisture uptake during shipping. Parts arrive clearly labeled and ready-to-be-processed.

Evonik’s shaping capabilities with ROHACELL® enable their customers to remove internal risks, lower overall lead time by eliminating dependence on shaping subcontractors, and remove any issues of FOD. Anything is possible, from providing prototypes for small development jobs to supplying complex geometric shapes for large scale production.
