Asahi Kasei Chemicals Constructs Synthetic Rubber Manufacturing Plant in Singapore

Asahi Kasei Chemicals conducted a groundbreaking ceremony to construct a new synthetic rubber manufacturing facility in Jurong Island, Singapore.

The first stage of construction will commence shortly and the plant will have a capacity to produce 50,000 tons of solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR) per year.

S-SBR is used in the production of high-performance tires. It maintains safety performance and offers higher fuel efficiency. As demand for high-performance, fuel-efficient tires are increasing across the globe due to strict environmental regulations and increased environmental awareness, the need for S-SBR material is also growing rapidly.

The Singapore facility signifies the company’s progress towards its S-SBR operation expansion and consistent supply to address rising customer needs.

Attendees who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony included Asahi Kasei’s Chairman, Mr. Taketsugu Fujiwara; Japanese Ambassador to Singapore, Mr. Yoichi Suzuki; and Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Mr. Leo Yip Seng Cheong.
