Asahi Kasei Plastics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Chemicals (AKCC), announced that it has developed a low VOC acetal copolymer for use in the Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle.
Tenac-C Z-Series engineered resin will be employed to manufacture the seat-adjuster comfort mat used in the lumbar support for improving the air quality in vehicle interiors.
The material has surpassed the performance of the new VDA 275 for low VOC emissions and it has several other eco-friendly features. Asahi Kasei Plastics’ low emission copolymer resin helps to reduce the vehicle weight by 400 grams/.88 lbs for every lumbar support mechanism. In addition, the Tenac-C Z-Series offers a natural lubricity getting rid of the requirement for traditional grease or lubricants.
John Moyer, the company’s President, stated that they are able to support OEMs in their endeavor to enhance the air quality in the automotive interiors. Asahi Kasei Plastics North America is looking forward for the application of the low emission technology in other industries. The unique features have made Tenac-C to be nominated for the Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE) Automotive Innovation Awards in the Environmental category.
