BASF to Feature Pharmaceutical Innovations at CPhI Worldwide

BASF will showcase its innovations for the pharmaceutical industry at the CPhI worldwide event, which is to be held in Frankfurt, Germany. The company will exhibit a range of pharmaceutical products and services, including inorganic specialties, catalysts, protective groups, reagents, solvents, building blocks, custom synthesis, excipients and APIs.

The company will feature PeroXeal, a new packaging for polyvinylpyrrolidone-based pharmaceutical excipients. The packaging eliminates penetration of atmospheric oxygen, thereby reducing oxidation level. This can lead to a considerable reduction in the peroxide level and make the excipients suitable for application in oxygen-sensitive API formulations. Other benefits of PeroXeal are enhanced formulation, stability of completed pharmaceutical dosages and an extended shelf life of excipients.

The company has also unveiled a new line of high purity iron salts, which is ideal for magnetic resonance imaging, phosphate management and iron deficiency anemia. A key benefit of the new iron salts is that its trace-metal impurities are maintained to a single digit ppm level. The salts are offered in several volumes to meet the requirements of the clients.

BASF will present the N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) Life Science solvent grade at the event. It is an ideal alternative to conventional NMP grades. NMP Life Science grade has a lower level of amines, whereas conventional grade contains minimum of ten times more amines. The new grade has low water content of 0.03% or less and it can be recycled frequently than conventional grades.

BASF has acquired Cognis and added high-purity oleochemicals to its pharmaceutical excipients portfolio. The company currently offers a wide range of waxes, dispersions, emollients, solvents, emulsifiers or solubilizers and pharmaceutical-grade ingredients for the dermatology industry.

NanoSelect platform technology from BASF has been used to produce platinum-based catalysts for high nitro group hydrogenation process. The technology is also used to enable production of advanced platinum catalysts for use in halo nitro aromatic hydrogenation activities.
