PowderMatrix Training Database Lists 100 Courses

A new database, which is able to identify important training courses for professionals that were previously hidden in the search engine jungle, now includes over 100 courses!

The PowdermatriX Faraday Partnership has created a Training Database that allows members to search a list of professional development short courses offered by a range of institutions including companies, universities and colleges. Whilst the majority of the courses included in the database are focused on technical subjects related to powders and particulates, it also includes a few courses on non-technical issues such as management.

Jon Binner, Professor of Ceramic Materials and Research Co-ordinator at Loughborough University, and Chairman of the PowdermatriX Training Committee, explained: “The database is unique in that it provides easy access to these courses in one easy to search location. Many of the courses included in this database were previously buried so deep in websites that even Google could not find them! This Database has recently passed the 100 mark in terms of the number of courses that it contains.”

The database can be accessed via the PowdermatriX website – www.powdermatrix.org

Although only normally available to PowdermatriX members, for a period in June 2005 it has been made available to members of the Particle Technology Subject Group of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) on a trial basis. Later in the year, it will be opened up to other organisations.

The database has been developed by the PowdermatriX Training Committee whose primary function is to promote business-relevant post graduate training, leading to life-long learning. In particular, this includes providing signposting to a coherent mix of existing, relevant professional development short courses, this is the function of the Database, but in addition, the Committee also seeks to provide training for the Faraday Associates (PhD students & postdoctoral researchers associated with the PowdermatriX Research programmes ) to help them to develop the skills needed for collaborative research projects and related activities.
