The story of unresolved tension and desire between a man and a woman is told by “Encounter” the new fragrance for men launched in September 2012 by Calvin Klein. The flacon is styled in a masculine transparent dark-blue and closed with a massive cap made in DuPont™ Surlyn® combined with an elegant metallized polypropylene collar.
The molder, Auriplast (France) created the closure as massive part with a thickness of over 25 mm without sink marks and concurrently minimizing the risk of welding lines to get a maximum of clarity. Therefore the DuPont packaging material was the ideal candidate as Surlyn® offers glass-like transparency as well as functional performance. As the fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de toilette Auriplast applied the most appropriate technology to mold the different sized caps in the same transparent appearance by either molding in one or two steps.
For the 2-step molding process they were challenged by hiding the injection gate and the boundary between the different layers of Surlyn®. Thanks to the ease of production of the polymer they achieved a cap with the highest purity.
