Siemens Receives 220 Million Euro Swiss Train Order

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has placed an order with Siemens Transportation Systems for 25 double-deck electric multiple units for Zurich’s commuter rail system. The volume amounts to more than € 220 million.

This deal represents an option that was comprised in the delivery contract for the first series of 35 vehicles. The trains now ordered by SBB are identical in design to the 35 double-deck multiple units purchased back in 2003, which will start service in the summer of this year. 100 meters long and capable of 140 kilometers per hour, the vehicles offer space for almost 1,000 passengers. The trains belonging to the second series are to be delivered in 2008 and 2009.
