Increasing Lifespan of Stainless Steel Auto-Pour Ladles Using Emisshield STG-1

Emisshield STG-1 (US Patent 7,105,047) has been applied successfully in stainless steel auto-pour ladles that operate at 1300°F.

The Problem

Stainless steel ladles used to pour molten aluminium were constantly exposed to abrasion and high temperatures and therefore wear with usage. The ladles require repair typically after about 20,000 pours.

The Solution

Ladles were first cleaned by grit blasting and then with alkaline cleaners. Emisshield STG-1 was then applied to the ladles by using a HVLP spray gun.

The Benefits

The ladles that were coated with Emisshield Ceramic/Refractory STG-1 lasted 40,000 pours before any repair was required. The material had almost doubled the number of pours, demonstrating that Emisshield products can increase the life of the ladles by 100%. Application of Emisshield STG-1 on refractory tools can thus considerably reduce wear and increase their lifespan.
