Steel Dynamics, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Severstal Columbus, LLC ("Columbus") from OAO Severstal. Located in northeast Mississippi, Columbus is one of the newest and most technologically advanced mini-mills in North America. Steel Dynamics will purchase Columbus for $1.625 billion in cash, subject to customary transaction purchase price adjustments.
The coupled pickling line-tandem cold mill (PLTCM) supplied by Siemens Metals Technologies was commissioned for Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Steel Co., Ltd. (VAMA) at the end of May. The line is part of a new cold rolling complex in Loudi, in the Chinese Province of Hunan.

Trinity Industries, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Meyer Steel Structures (“Meyer”), the utility steel structures division of Thomas & Betts Corporation, a member of the ABB Group, for a purchase price of approximately $600 million.
The potential expansion would increase melting and casting capabilities by up to 1.2 million tons above current melting capacity. This represents roughly an additional 800,000 tons per year of finished product along with 400,000 tons of melting capacity to be transferred as slab to SSAB’s Mobile facility for rolling and finishing.
