BASF Offers Inspiration to Leather Industry

Following on from the success of the first edition of Inspirations for Leather, the leather department at BASF has now published its new catalogue for the spring-summer season 2009.

The collection is entitled Edition Venezia, and it combines the bright colors of the Venetian carnival with a variety of unusual features. The spring collection features fine stripes in fresh pastel shades. Leather in bright colors with wild two-tone brushstroke effects are a perfect match for elegant summer evening wear, and spots and polka dots are an excellent accompaniment to relaxed leisure wear. A marbled texture is a novel feature that gives the leather a slightly vintage look. The collection is rounded off with classical and extravagant brown shades. Gerhard Wolf, head of global technical service in the BASF leather department, has a high regard for design from Europe for Europe: “Our technicians in Spain and Italy are the experts when it comes to creating fashionable leather, but our staff in other European countries have also contributed some very attractive designs”.

As fashion experts Manuel Vila of BASF Curtex S.A., Spain, and Tom Markelj of BASF Aktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen explained: “The first brochure was very popular with our customers because we combined fashion with cost effectiveness, and the leather could be adapted to be used as shoe upper leather, bag leather and garment leather. We have now extended the concept of the first brochure even further”.

The complete manufacturing procedure for each type of leather is available in a separate booklet.
