Ausmelt Limited has officially opened its new smelter in Whyalla, South Australia. The new smelter, known as a Resource Recovery Facility, is using Ausmelt technology to recover metals from waste materials.

The plant’s first contract is to recover zinc from primary leach residues supplied from Nyrstar’s Risdon works in Tasmania.

The opening ceremony, held in Whyalla yesterday, was attended by Ms Lyn Breuer, State Member for Giles, Mr Rowan Ramsay, Federal Member for Grey and Mr Jim Pollock, Mayor of Whyalla City Council as well as the many state and local government and corporate supporters of the project.

A copy of the opening ceremony address given by Mr Paul Abbott, Managing Director of Ausmelt, is attached.

A video clip showing the operations at the Whyalla Resource Recovery Facility can be viewed at Ausmelt’s website www.ausmelt.com.au.
