Bodycote Offer Single Edge Notch Tension (SENT) Testing

Bodycote have recently announced that its Daventry Laboratory has validated a new testing procedure for fracture toughness testing. The procedure known as Single Edge Notch Tension or SENT was developed specifically in response to technological advances in the oil and gas pipeline sector.

Up until the acceptance of the SENT process, fracture toughness and critical defect size were determined from bending tests. This type of testing has been known to produce over-conservative and non-representative results. The new procedure which places test specimens in tension is more representative of actual service conditions and hence produces more meaningful results.
