Grease Grabber Oil Skimmer from Abanaki Ideal for Steel Mills

Abanaki Corporation offers the Grease Grabber® oil skimmer specially designed for the harsh conditions of the steel making industry where heavy greases and oils accumulate in the steel-mill scale pit. The Grease Grabber® is the most economical method available for removing grease from steel mill wastewater and recirculating water systems, eliminating the cost of sucker truck disposal and protecting expensive sand filtration systems.

Abanaki’s patented oil skimmer system provides a continuously operating belt and wiper that can remove up to 160 gallons per hour of grease and oil. The belt makes use of the differences in specific gravity and surface tension between oil and water, attracting grease as the belt passes through the surface of the water and discharging it into tramp waste containers.

Unlike traditional oil skimmers, the Grease Grabber oil skimmer is designed particularly for the demanding outdoor environment of the scale pit, where heavy loads of grease and oil accumulate. To handle this kind of load, even at freezing temperatures, the Grease Grabber uses an oil-filled gear reducer having bronze gears and ball bearings to drive pressure rolls with tractor treads that rotate the belt. This heavy-duty drive train will elevate skimmed grease more than 100 feet. A heated hopper keeps grease flowing in cold outdoor temperatures. If grease mats on the water surface, an optional MatBuster™ agitator is available.

The ruggedly simple belt-and-motor approach is proven to operate unattended and reliably for decades with little maintenance. The motor, reducer, corrosion-resistant materials, and powder-coated finish give the unit exceptionally long life.

The Grease Grabber oil skimmer features a variety of advantages:

  • Elevates and removes up to 160 gph of grease over 100 ft. without pumps
  • Reduces fluid disposal costs
  • Helps meet government requirements for water discharge
  • Protects expensive sand filtration systems
  • Operates in freezing temperatures
  • Occupies only 2 ½’ X 1’ of tank space (71.12cm x 22.86cm)
  • Maintains skimming efficiency with fluctuating fluid level
  • Fast set-up, easy cleaning, and minimal maintenance
  • Effectively operates in turbulent liquids
