metalweb Supply Metal for Swords on "Game of Thrones" TV Series

The craftsmanship of metalweb, one of the UK’s leading stockists of specialist metals, has benefitted the sword-wielding stars of the award-winning TV hit Game of Thrones.

International TV stars such as Sean Bean, Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage are regularly seen on screen swinging fearsome blades during Game of Thrones’ vivid fight scenes – now metalweb has been asked to provide the aluminium plate that will be used to create almost 1000 swords in the latest season.

metalweb has been requested to supply the aluminium by its customer, a specialist precision engineering company in Northern Ireland.  The order came as a result of opening the Kilkeel facility, established earlier this year by metalweb.

The ‘2014 alloy’ plate supplied is a special high-strength aluminium – more often used in aerospace applications than for making fighting equipment!

Mark Benfield, Sales Director said:

“This is the type of contract that proves engineering lies at the heart of so many elements of our lives. The supplying of aluminium plate may not immediately send the pulses racing, but you can’t create Game of Thrones’ visceral scenes without an authentic edge – that’s why expertise like metalweb’s is as valuable to the creative industry as it is to the aerospace industry for example, or to the automotive industry.

“It’s also a boost to the metalweb staff to see our efforts put to such entertaining use by the likes of the Lannisters and the Starks.  We’re all confident the aluminium plate we supplied will help Game of Thrones earn some more metal - in the form of Emmy Awards and Golden Globes!”
