SGL Carbon Divests Electrical Contact Business

As part of its ongoing plan to streamline its portfolio, SGL Carbon have divested SGL Pantrac GmbH, its German business that deals with electrical contacts for trains, trams and electric motors.

The business was acquired by E-Carbon of Belgium for an undisclosed price. E-Carbon is a joint venture between Gerken S.A. (Belgium) and Helwig Carbon Products (USA). Both of these companies are long term customers of SGL Carbon.

The divestiture of this business marks SGL Carbon’s withdrawal from the manufacture of electrical contacts, one of the areas it has earmarked as being non-core. In stead they will be concentrating on high tech applications within the Graphite Specialties business unit.
