Alcan to Spend $7m to Increase Amoured Cable Production Capacity

Alcan Inc. announced today that it will invest US$ 7 million in its Saint-Maurice facility to significantly increase the site’s hard alloy aluminum strip capacity for the construction and industrial markets. The improved capacity is scheduled to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2006.

"This investment represents a major step in our strategy to secure our long-term position as the leading manufacturer of aluminum rod and strip for armoured cables, said Ian Hewett, President, Alcan Cable. It also reflects our confidence in the North American armoured cable business, which is expected to grow in the coming years. The additional capacity will allow us not only to meet increasing customer demand but also to be fully aligned with the market growth trend."

Alcan aluminum strip is used in the production of armoured electrical cables for the construction and industrial markets. It provides mechanical protection for the conductors, increased throughput using alloys with superior formability, and overall weight saving for cable manufacturers.

Recognized as the only fully integrated aluminum cable supplier in North America, Alcan Cable is the leading manufacturer of aluminum rod and aluminum strip for armoured cables.
