CMR-Free UV-Masking for Precise Protection

Hoenle Adhesives is pleased to announce the launch of Vitralit® MASK E-20131, a new UV- and visible light-curable masking material designed to simplify temporary protection processes in demanding applications. This mask protects critical parts from media blasting and aggressive cleaning processes. Vitralit® MASK E-20131 can be applied quickly and precisely and can easily be removed by peel with no residue left behind. The new material combines fast curing and excellent flexibility.

Vitralit® MASK E-20131 was specifically developed for use during orthopedic implant manufacturing processes. This mask passed ISO 10993-5 biocompatibility testing to ensure its suitability for medical device applications. It is a solvent-free, one-component acrylate system that provides reliable temporary masking and protective coating performance while supporting modern manufacturing requirements. The liquid masking material is CMR-free and features shear-thinning rheology, enabling precise and controlled application on complex geometries.

High-value cobalt, titanium, stainless steel and other alloy implants often require surface treatment processes that include cleaning, media blasting and polishing, These processes are limited to specific areas on each component. The remaining component surfaces must be protected from being damaged. Traditional masking materials such as tapes, lacquers, and waxes can be labor-intensive to apply, provide inconsistent protection, and may introduce additional environmental and regulatory challenges. Hoenle’s UV-curable masking material offers a modern alternative, delivering fast, reliable protection against aggressive processing conditions including plating, paint, and high-impact particulates. Applied by syringe, brush, dipping, or spraying, Vitralit® MASK E-20131 cures within seconds using UV or visible light. This removable masking solution helps manufacturers improve process consistency, reduce rework, and increase production efficiency.

The translucent green material is supplied ready to use and is compatible with both manual dispensing and automated application systems. Its thixotropic behavior helps prevent unwanted flow while ensuring excellent coverage of targeted areas. The green color contrasts well on the metal surfaces for excellent visibility. This assists visual inspection processes to ensure the mask was properly dispensed and subsequently removed in its entirety.

A key advantage of the new masking solution is its compatibility with both 365 nm and 405 nm LED curing systems, providing optimal efficiency in manual or highly automated production processes. Optional robotic dispensing and curing provides the ability to precisely mask complex 3D geometries. When paired with Hoenle’s UV/LED curing systems, your masking process is optimized for maximum efficiency!

Designed to withstand demanding processes, Vitralit® MASK E-20131 offers a typical operating temperature range from -45 °C to +145 °C while maintaining excellent flexibility. With an elongation at break of approximately 210%, the cured material can accommodate mechanical stresses and dimensional changes during downstream processing.

When no longer required after surface treatment, coating, machining, or finishing operations, Vitralit® MASK E-20131 can be peeled away with no residue left behind. For faster post-processing removal, a short 80 °C hot water soak will soften the masking material making it easier to peel. This feature eliminates the need for aggressive chemicals helping to streamline production workflows.

Vitralit® MASK E-20131 is available immediately and complements Hoenle’s established line of light-curable masks for industrial manufacturing, medical technology, and aerospace applications.

The new material will be in focus of our presence at Compamed trade fair in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 16-19 November 2026. Visit us at our booth no. 8A R27!
