Kanthal Release Kanthal Globar SD Silicon Carbide Heating Elements

Kanthal have released a new range of silicon carbide heating elements, called Kanthal Globar SD.

Kanthal Globar SD combine the best features of existing element ranges such as Hot Rod, Silit ED and Globar LL to offer a product with high mechanical strength, a lower rate of reaction with the process environment and longer life expectancy.

Although new to the market, Kanthal have already supplied over 2000 Globar SD elements to customers for applications including:

Continuous and batch production of ferrite at 1200-1450°C

         Low pressure aluminium die casting

         Continuous heat treatment of steels

         Float glass production

         Firing alumina ceramics

Kanthal Globar SC elements come in a range of sizes in one or three piece configurations. They can be supplied as straight elements or as multi-leg elements. Special glazes and coatings are available to protect them from aggressive environments.

The new range of elements feature a larger grain size and reduced porosity compared to their predecessors. This results in a lower overall surface area which in turn reduces the rate of resistance increase over time for the elements.
