Introduction

Copper and its alloys are particularly known for their good electric and thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance. They are used in a number of applications, by varying their properties which are based on the amount of impurities that are alloyed.

Copper alloy C11040 is referred to as electrolytic tough pitch copper. It is available in rod and wire forms. This alloy is registered with the US EPA as an anti-microbial.

Some of the methods adopted for fabricating this alloy are coining, bending, coppersmith, upsetting and drawing. Other methods of fabrication are knurling, roll threading, spinning, swaging and stamping.

Hot working - Copper UNS C11040 alloy has excellent hot working abilities.

Cold working - Copper UNS C11040 alloy has excellent cold working properties.

Applications

Copper UNS C11040 is used in the following applications:-

  • Bus bars, bus conductors, lead-wires, hollow conductors
  • Vacuum tubes, vacuum seals
  • Transistor components
  • Coaxial cables, klystrons
