Rice Engineers Explore Light Absorption Properties of Atomically Thin Molybdenum Disulfide

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is used as an effective lubricant in motorcycle and aircraft engines, and in the universal and CV joints of automobiles and trucks. The material also exhibits a remarkable light absorption property, according to Isabell Thomann, an engineering researcher at Rice University. This quality makes molybdenum disulfide a potential candidate for the development of photocatalytic and optoelectronic devices.

Researchers Resolve Bond Configuration of Intermediates in Complex Chemical Reactions

For the first time, researchers have successfully imaged all of the steps involved in a complicated organic reaction, and subsequently resolved the microscopic mechanisms that account for their behavior. The study was performed by an international team of scientists, including the UPV/EHU's Nano-Bio Spectroscopy Research Group.
