1960 Rambler Wrapped in Ferrari Red from PPG Wins Prestigious Award

A PPG Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red finish from PPG Industries’ automotive refinish business adorns “Ferrambo,” winner of the 2008 Ridler Award, which honors the most outstanding custom car making its debut at the Detroit Autorama held annually in March. This is the second time in three years that a PPG finish adorned a Ridler Award winner.

1960 Rambler with PPG Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red paint and Ferrari 360 mechanicals winner of 2008 Ridler Award for modified cars.

Sporting contemporary Ferrari 360 Modena mechanicals wrapped in the much-modified skin of a 1960 Rambler wagon, Ferrambo comprises modern power and technology in a striking vintage package. The vehicle reflects the combined talents and “out-of-the-box” thinking of Divers Street Rods, Startup, Wash., and Ferrambo owner Mike Warn, president of Gran Prix Imports, Wilsonville, Ore.

“True to its promise, PPG provided us with the most beautiful and reliable finish possible,” shop owner Tim Divers said. “The PPG Ferrari Rosso Corsa Red color chosen for Ferrambo really delivered.”

Shawn McNally and Jim Lykken executed the flawless PPG finish using Deltron DBC 75259 basecoat over DP74LF sealer, topped with DCU 2002 clearcoat. K38 Prima Primer Surfacer was used throughout the build. The frame was chemically cleaned with DX579 and then conditioned with DX520 before DP90LF sealer and DCC 9300 color were applied. After preparing all the pieces with DX533 and conditioning them with DX503, the engine was fully detailed using DP48LF sealer, Deltron DBC 33897 Fine Silver Metallic coating and DCU 2002. PPG custom painter Paul Stoll supported the Divers crew.
