Kraton Expands its Line of Polymers Used for ASC Applications

Kraton Performance Polymers, Inc. (NYSE: “KRA”), a leading global producer of styrenic block copolymers or “SBC’s” (together with Kraton Polymers LLC and its other subsidiaries “Kraton”), announced the addition of DX405 to its product line of polymers for adhesives, sealants, and coatings (ASC) applications. This technology will allow the ASC industry to more efficiently and expediently manufacture products that are stronger, softer and easier to produce.

“DX405 is very versatile, which makes it suitable in many applications and it is widely used in the flexographic printing plate industry where strength, softness, ease-in-processing and cross-linking are essential. Additional applications that could benefit from DX405 include compounds, coatings and other UV-curing systems,” said Mark Siebert, Vice President of Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings at Kraton. “DX405 is designed to impart optimal strength and softness to end-products and is essentially free of di-block. Therefore, it provides the strongest matrix when used in UV cross-linking systems.”

DX405 has a low styrene content, which promotes ease of processing, low viscosity, and the attainment of lower application temperatures. This adds efficiency and simplification to the manufacturing process, which shortens batch times, increases extrusion rates and improves productivity. DX405 has a wide formulation window and its versatility makes it suitable for solvent-based compositions, hot melt adhesives, and sealant applications. It can be formulated with other polymers, resins, fillers, pigments, oils, thickeners, waxes and stabilizers to obtain a desired balance of properties.
