VFS Sell Vacuum Furnace to Bio-Vac to Produce Orthopedic Coatings

Vacuum Furnace Systems Corporation announces the sale in November of a vacuum furnace to Bio-Vac, Inc. for their Southfield MI orthopedic coatings plant. The new horizontal 2-bar external quench system will join four other VFS furnaces already in operation at this plant, plus two at their plant in Valencia Spain. Delivery of the order is expected in December 2004.

The new furnace, VFS Model HEQ-3836-2 with a work zone size of 24" wide x 24" high x 36" deep, a graphite insulated hot zone and GraForm curved graphite heating elements, will be used in Bio-Vac's proprietary coating process for orthopedic implants. The protective atmosphere of the vacuum minimizes oxidation, and enhances adhesion and luster of the coating. Bio-Vac, Inc. has provided vacuum porous coating for 1.5 million medical implants since it began operations in 1984. The furnace's Programmer/Controller is VFS's exclusive CompuVac interactive touch-screen workstation.
