Northrop Grumman Corporation plans to add approximately 100 engineering, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing support jobs to its St. Augustine manufacturing center by early summer 2005.
These new jobs will be filled by current Northrop Grumman employees relocating from another company facility in Bethpage, N.Y., and local hires from the St. Augustine area. The addition of the new skills will strengthen the capabilities of this aircraft manufacturing, upgrade and overhaul facility.
The manufacturing center is the production element for the company's Airborne Early Warning and Electronic Warfare (AEW&EW) Systems business unit headquartered in Bethpage. The unit is part of Northrop Grumman's Integrated Systems sector.
"For the past few years, our business area has grown significantly," said Philip A. Teel, sector vice president of AEW&EW Systems, in a message to the business area employees. "That growth has caused us to look carefully at our organizational structure to ensure that we can efficiently deliver products to our customers within our contractual commitments. Based on an assessment of our organization and processes, we've decided to 'redefine' the statement of work performed at the St. Augustine facility to better support our production efforts."
The company's decision to add engineering, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing support jobs in St. Augustine, Teel added, was made after an internal business unit study identified the best way to organize and locate the engineering and manufacturing teams to optimize performance now and in the years ahead.
The decision was also made possible with the help, in October, of the St. Johns County (Fla.) Commission and the Economic Development Council of the St. Augustine & St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce.

The hiring process for the new jobs in St. Augustine has just begun. Northrop Grumman hopes to fill all of the new positions by summer 2005.
