DuPont Performance Polymers adds a new DuPont Zytel PLUS nylon resin and two Zytel HTN PPA resins to its breakthrough family of products designed to provide the kind of long-term protection against aggressive environments that can - at minimum - double the life of a component.
Based on DuPont SHIELD Technology, the new resins will stand up to long-term exposure to hot oil, calcium chloride, impact after aging and temperatures as high as 230°C.
DuPont™ Zytel® PLUS nylon and DuPont™ Zytel® HTN92 Series PPA resins can protect against high temperature exposure to meet new demands in the automotive industry.
These new polymers, introduced at K-2010 in Düsseldorf, Germany, further enable the auto industry to adopt lightweight plastics and eliminate metal while helping to ensure that components will last the service life of the vehicle.
"The need for a family of long-life, high-heat, chemically resistant materials has never been stronger as the auto industry drives to cut weight and cost to meet new fuel consumption and emissions standards around the world," said Patrick Ferronato, global marketing director -- DuPont Automotive Performance Polymers. "Today's engines create more demanding environments and each component and system faces a different formulation of "chemical cocktail" or a different load at temperature - one material can't do it all."
The seven commercial products and one developmental grade in the portfolio credit SHIELD Technology, only from DuPont, for their ability to withstand long-term exposure to heat and chemicals.
