Commercial Metals Acquires G.A.M. Steel

Commercial Metals Company has completed the purchase of G.A.M. Steel, which processes and supplies steel plates and long products.

Melbourne, Australia-based G.A.M. Steel serves the rural, structural fabrication and production sectors in Victoria. The company is recognized for its superior customer service.

Commercial Metals and its subsidiaries produce, recycle and supply metal and steel products, associated materials and services via a strong network. It has construction-associated product distribution centers, steel processing and fabrication facilities, steel mini mills, metal recycling plants, a copper tube mill and marketing and sales offices in the US and in strategic global locations.

The President and Chief Operating Officer at Commercial Metals, Joe Alvarado commented that he is happy about the G.A.M acquisition. Even though the company has a strong presence in steel marketing and supply in the Australian market, the purchase provides a new foothold in Victoria, the major processed steel market in Australia. The company believes that the acquisition is a strategic investment to improve its current countrywide long products supply investments in Australia, he said.
