Tokyo Electron to Participate in Albany NanoTech

Tokyo Electron Limited, the worlds second largest supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, have announced they will participate in Albany NanoTech’s new 300mm semiconductor research centre.

It is estimated that the collaboration will generate more than $300 million in spending and 300 research jobs over seven years.

The facility will enable research to be carried out on 300mm semiconductor equipment compared to the small scale equipment available to most research institutions. When complete, the centre will house two 300mm wafer cleanroom buildings, the first of which is on schedule to be operational by late 2003.

The centre will house complete semiconductor fabrication facilities, suitable for the development of materials and processes. The ability to offer 300mm equipment and the scale of the operations has been designed to facilitate faster lead times from research to market.

While the extent of Tokyo Electron’s participation has not yet been finalised, it is believed to involve equipment and personnel, which will help them to further their own internal research.
