Dow Corning Introduces High-Performance Silicone Ingredients for Skin Care Products at in-cosmetics 2014

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, introduced here today at in-cosmetics 2014 in hall A4, stand D10, a unique array of high-performance silicone ingredients and trendsetting formulation concepts for skin care products.

These include Dow Corning® ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier, Dow Corning® EP-9801 Hydro Cosmetic Powder, new formulations for high sun protection factor (SPF) sun care applications and next-generation formulations from Dow Corning’s new Aqua Dimensions program. Dow Corning is also launching “Life without Boundaries,” the newest edition of its Trends Lab program of silicone-based formulation concepts that help customers address emerging consumer skin care preferences.

Dow Corning will feature its new ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier in in-cosmetics’s Innovation Zone (box 16) and give visitors the opportunity to touch and feel some of the latest formulations created with the new product. On April 2 at 10:00 a.m., Cindy Delvallé, Dow Corning beauty care application engineer, will give a presentation in the Innovation Zone to show customers how ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier can help deliver cutting-edge skin care, color cosmetics and sun care products.

“Dow Corning is here at in-cosmetics 2014 to showcase how we continue to leverage our in-depth industry research and market intelligence to create advanced new tailor-made technologies for macro skin care trends around the world,” said Stewart Long, regional Skin Care market leader, Dow Corning. “Our exceptional ability to closely track global influences and trends enables us to proactively deliver a tremendously wide range of silicone solutions – from lighter, fresher and higher performing ingredients to bar-raising formulation concepts. Looking at our stand, it is clear that our skin care customers can continue to rely on us to offer silicone solutions that will help them to succeed.”

New Dow Corning ES-5600 Silicone Glycerol Emulsifier offers exceptional oil formulation flexibility and superior emulsification capability – including small particle size and high stability – for liquid foundations, color cosmetics and sun care products. It can make formulations more attractive by providing color intensity to foundations and improving performance of sunscreens – without the use of materials containing polyethylene glycol (PEG).

Combining the sensory benefits of an elastomeric powder with easy dispersion in water, Dow Corning EP-9801 Hydro Cosmetic Powder offers desirable effects in liquid foundations, water-in-oil creams, oil-in-water creams, lotions, gels and toners. This advanced new material provides a smooth and powdery feel, reduces skin shine and also helps mask skin imperfections. For ease of use, the new product can be added directly into the water phase of formulations without premixing.

The company’s innovative range of high-SPF sun care formulations (SPF 35-50) deliver exceptional sensory performance and lightweight touch in a variety of consumer-friendly formats such as lotions and sprays. Benefits include non-whitening on wet skin, long-lasting water resistance and sand repellence.

Dow Corning’s new Aqua Dimensions formulations feature three materials – Dow Corning EP-9801 Hydro Cosmetic Powder, Dow Corning® DC-2501 Cosmetic Wax and Dow Corning® EL-7040 Hydro Elastomer Blend – and demonstrate how these unique silicones help customers to impart a luxurious feel to the water phase of their products. They easily transform water into a wide array of textures, from liquids to gels and even powders. Different product and consumer sensory benefits can be achieved by selecting the most appropriate technology.

Building upon its Trends Lab program introduced at in-cosmetics 2013, Dow Corning is spotlighting cutting-edge formulation concepts from its new edition of Trends Lab, entitled “Life without Boundaries.” These concepts target four important global trends identified and defined by Dow Corning as follows:

  • Crossover – Reflects the interplay of styles across generations, genders and geographies. Water-feel powder and primer epitomize the ultra-lightweight sensory experience that is prized in Japan and Korea, and being eagerly adopted by Western consumers.
  • Gen Z – Expresses individualism and experimentation. Intense matte lipstick delivers dramatic, deep color that defies convention. It glides on beautifully for a flawless, comfortable finish that is also highly transfer resistant.
  • Virtual Reality – Showcases the possibilities to create experiences and styles influenced by trends such as 3D printing technology and holographic effects. Holographic eye shadow delivers depth, shimmer, a subtle 3D illusion and a supremely bouncy texture.
  • Great Expectations – Reflects the shift from owning material possessions to seeking unique and unforgettable experiences in nature and being inspired by the amazing offerings the world provides. Inspired by the lotus plant leaf, a biomimetic skin cream forms an invisible shield that reduces adhesion of airborne pollutants for a clean, moisturizing and healthy sensation. Additionally, a luxurious gel cream infused with kiwi and melon extracts provides a delicious sensory and visual experience.

These exciting new formulation concepts and Dow Corning’s growing portfolio of innovative silicone technologies are on display here at in-cosmetics 2014 from April 1 to 3.
