LG Chem Become World's 3rd Largest ABS Producer

LG Chem, Korea’s largest chemical company have just become the third largest producer of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) after completing expansions to both Korean and Chinese operations. They now boast an ABS production capacity of 800,000 tonnes per year.

LG Chem’s affiliate LG Yongxing Chemical Ltd, in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China now has a production capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year, up from 150,000 tonnes per year. The plant was always planned to produce this amount of materials, but they did not expect to call on the additional capacity until mid 2003. However, and advanced startup date and customer demand, have lead to the capacity increase being implemented earlier then expected. Improved economies of scale also aided the decision, as the plant will be more cost competitive.

The plant located in Yeosu, Korea has also benefited from a capacity increase of 100,000 tonnes per year, taking its capacity to 500,000 tonnes per year.
