Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S Invests €3 Million in New Building at Wertheim Headquarters

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S GmbH is preparing for future growth with a €3 million investment in a new building at its Wertheim headquarters in Germany. Along with building additional space for the production portion of their business, the new building will feature a dedicated global training and technology center, offering an inventive and constructive environment for their engineers to develop individual customer solutions based on growing and future needs.

“With this initiative, we will be able to meet our customer’s requirements for innovative solutions,” said Joerg Heldmann, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastic L+S GmbH.

“The training and technology center offers a creative environment to work jointly with our customers on new developments which will be a key element for the future,” added Peter Werger, Global Market Manager - Automotive.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics L+S GmbH (which was legally established due to the December 2013 acquisition of LS Kunststofftechnologie GmbH by Saint-Gobain) is known for its cutting-edge expertise in design, tooling, testing and the processing of high-temperature polymers as well as focusing on developing specific grades of high-performance materials since 1985. With in-house compounding, applied knowledge and equipment, the company has been able to enhance the properties of polymer materials, specifically for applications in transmissions and drives.

Their materials have been combined with Saint-Gobain Seals’ existing Meldin® HT thermoplastic materials product line, which are available in compression or injection molded, machined components and basic shapes in order to provide the most added value in customization and design flexibility. These materials retain their critical properties over a temperature range from cryogenic through +600°F (+316°C) for continuous operation and may be used intermittently up to +900°F (+482°C).

Saint-Gobain Seals recently launched their new polyamide-imide (PAI) based Meldin® 4000 series, developed as a result of their collaboration with the acquired LS Kunststofftechnologie GmbH. Strengthening their polymer solution portfolio, especially in the automotive market, this new series is part of their Meldin® HT product line, which includes the Meldin® 1000 and 5000 Series, and complements their other polymer product line, Meldin® 7000 thermoset materials.
