Environmental approval has been granted for (Australia) Queensland’s most ambitious civil works project, the $3.8 billion Aldoga aluminium smelter in Gladstone.
While details of how the project will be funded have yet to be released, officials have said that construction on the plant could begin this month.
With a rumoured completion date of early 2007, the proposed plant will be the most modern greenfield aluminium smelter in the world, capable of producing 560,000 tonnes of aluminium per year.
