Rusal Clarifies Position on Azerbaijan Aluminium Smelter

In light of statements in various media about the alleged beginning by RUSAL of the construction of an aluminium smelter in Azerbaijan, the Company deems it necessary to clarify the current status of the project.

RUSAL has made no decision to build an aluminium smelter as of now. The Company is indeed interested in the opportunity of constructing a smelter in the Republic and is currently in negotiations with the Government of Azerbaijan. RUSAL is also working on preparing a preliminary feasibility study based on which we should decide on the appropriateness of this project. The feasibility study should be complete by the end of 2006.
