New Chinese Institute for Advanced Technology Research

CAS and the Government of Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province reached an agreement recently to jointly establish a CAS Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT).

Focusing on information technology, SIAT strives to be a national research center in the research and development of key common technologies in the advanced manufacturing industry. Composing of a core research institute (Integrated Technology Research Institute) and several centers, SIAT aims to be a top-ranking base for both scientific research and talent training as well as an incubator for the manufacturing industry.

"We will make efforts in the following three to five years to develop SIAT into a creditable institute in the world integrated technology context and an outstanding organization in the national innovation system, imposing positive effect on manufacturing enterprises in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Guangdong, and making contributions to building China a manufacturing power in the world," says SIAT founding director FAN Jianping, who was vice director of the CAS Institute of Computing Technology before joining the Shenzhen institute.
