BHP Steel Recommend BlueScope Steel for Their New Name

The Directors of BHP Steel will be recommending that shareholders vote for the new name BlueScope Steel at the Annual General Meeting on November 12.

The new name was chosen after an exhaustive process after having reviewed hundreds of suggestions. The new name will also enable them to keep the stock exchange listing code ‘BSL’ as well as reflecting their heritage, values and future directions.

The name change is necessary after BHP and Billiton merged, and they subsequently demerged BHP Steel. Under the terms of the agreement, BHP Steel licenced the acronym ‘BHP’ until June 30, 2004.
